FODS Newsletter September 2011

First of all welcome to all the parents and carers of the new children at Diptford. We hope you feel at ease at our small community school and please do come to any of our FODS meetings and gatherings and if you would like to stay up to date with what’s going on with FODS then we have two easy ways to do it; you can e-mail your  address to denisehawkins@btinternet.com and I’ll put you on my circulation list and secondly we have our own website which you can log into anytime or, to receive updates directly to your e-mail account, you MUST register your e-mail address and then you will receive updates automatically. You can access this site through the school website as well, just click on the FODS section. Please do sign up! Note it is not a www address http://friendsofdiptfordschool.wordpress.com/.  This has been very kindly set up by Ali Hockings, mum to Jay (Class 2) and Eddy (reception), so a very big thank you to her for making it look fantastic  and all her hard work.

Forthcoming Events:

Nearly New Sale – Sat 24th September  2011

SouthBrentVillagehall 10am til 12.  Further details can be obtained from the FODS website. At the last count we had only 2 tables left to sell and then we will have filled the entire hall!

In a final push, you will see two boxes outside the school gates for you to :

  1. Donate quality kids      clothes that FODS can sell on its stall;
  2. Donate quality      raffle prizes, something you wouldn’t mind winning. We are going for      quality not quantity.

Lastly, if you are able to make biscuits or cakes for the day then please do so, please bring them to school on the Friday morning so that we know what quantities we have for the morning.  If anyone has too much jam or chutney made then you could also donate that!

Apple Pressing – Sunday 9th October 2011 We have booked the press and we are proposing to hold this in the school grounds including the field area and under the canopy of the outdoor learning area. It will be a day for the family with the kids helping to collect the apples (during school time!) from kind local orchard owners, make the pulp and help press! At the end we all hope to drink it!  So if you:

  1. Have apple trees      please do hold on to those apples for the pressing and bring them on the      day,
  2. Keep hold of empty      bottles, plastic, like milk cartons, juice cartons etc to collect and take      home the apple juice!

We are proposing to have Soup and bread rolls to keep everyone going but if you would like to bring a plate of food to share that would be a lovely idea!

Paula Cox at pj.mc@tesco.net is heading this up for us and if you have any additional ideas to make it a fun day then please do let her know.  It is such great fun for the children and a chance to make use of the schools facilities and local orchards! In the mean time put the date in your diaries as well and further updates will follow!

Bags 2 School – 7th November 2011:  just heads up that we will do another one of these as it’s been an easy fundraiser for us. This time we will try to involve Diptford whole village to see how much we can gather! Hold on to those heavy shoes, belts and handbags until we need them in our Bags 2 School. Remember they pay by weight!

Other News:

100 Club: A great fundraiser for the school and a chance to win £50 with odds better than the National Lottery for £5 a month or £60 a year.  Forms in the school office or on the website.  August drawn winners:

1st prize £50 Bishop

2nd prize £25 Clayden

3rd prize £10 McCready

The September draw will be made at the nearly new sale.

Family Portrait Offer with local photographer. In the book bags next week you will receive a letter and a voucher from a local photographer.  Together we think this is a great value offer which we thought couldn’t be missed so we are passing it on to you!

Uniform .  The new order form is available in the office and on both Web-sites. You will find it under its temporary home on the Communications tab in the school web-site or under the uniform tab on the FODS website. Hopefully you can access that whenever you think at home to order the new bits. We have added are PE/Swim bags (with school logo and name block details) which look great. Don’t forget we have fleeces with the school logo for those times in between wearing jumpers all the time and too cold for just the polo shirts.

Your ideas and what do we do?

Just remember that we are not just about raising funds for the school, we are here to have a bit of fun, be social and give ideas and make suggestions to. If you have an idea whether it be for purely a social event or a fundraising idea or some suggestion for school, be it volunteering or special skill then lets here it.  PS. Does anyone fancy doing the Avon Inn Quiz on  a Monday evening sometime, or do the new reception parents fancy a social night?
